PRC continues helping Marawi, partners with Kuwait Red Crescent Society for sustained aid

The Philippine Red Cross(PRC) has been extending assistance to the most vulnerable displaced Marawi families soon after the conflict begun. In continuing the support for the internally displaced persons, the PRC partnered with the Kuwait Red Crescent Society (KRCS) which provided ambulances, water tankers and Ramadan food packs to PRC beneficiaries in Saguiaran, Lanao del Sur.

In time for Eid al-Fitr, a Muslim festival that falls on June 15 this year, PRC together with KRCS gave away Ramadan food packs last June 5, 2018 which contain noodles and fruit salad similar to Noche Buena food packs.A total of 400 families at the Saguiaran covered court, the Saguiaran people’s park, and the Saguiaran bunk house received the food packs. Another distribution will be held where another batch of families will receive such food packs before Ramadan ends.

“From the very beginning, the Red Cross is there in Marawi helping out people stand from the ravage through the provision of clean and safe water, health stations, portalets, shower facilities, ambulances, water tankers, and payloader. Now that the cooperation agreement with KRCS continues, our partnership to provide assistance to the families affected by the Mayon volcanic activities and by the Marawi siege will be adhered,” PRC Chairman Richard Gordon said.

The cooperation agreement to continue extending aid to those displaced in Mayon and Marawi was made possible after previous talks between PRC and KRCS. The KRCS Head of Delegation met Chairman Gordon yesterday at the PRC National Headquarters, Mandaluyong City, right after the food distribution in Marawi.
