MANDALUYONG, PHILIPPINES- Unilab turned over one brand-new ambulance unit to the Philippine Red Cross (PRC) Rizal Chapter on September 16, 2024, held at the PRC Logistics and Multipurpose Center (PLMC) in Mandaluyong.

The new ambulance unit is the second ambulance donated by Unilab to the PRC Rizal Chapter; the first unit was turned over in 2013. It is an addition to the PRC’s 178 ambulances that transport patients during disasters and emergencies, strategically positioned in the organization’s 102 chapters nationwide.

PRC Chairman and CEO Dick Gordon shared that the PRC sets the gold standard when it comes to ambulance services. He said that the additional ambulance would further strengthen the PRC’s capacity to respond in crisis situations.

“Unilab has been our ally for many years. We are grateful for this partnership and their support as we continue to save more lives using our assets. We started with one ambulance; now, we have over a hundred ambulances. We owe it to partners who believe in the work we do,” Chairman Gordon cited.

“This is a story we want to put out there to inspire more organizations to partner with us. Unilab has been there to support our health caravans, we get our medicine supply from them, and they don’t just donate ambulances but they’re also covering its maintenance costs,” PRC Secretary-General Dr. Gwen Pang mentioned.

“Kung marami kayong pasasalamat sa amin, mas marami po kaming dapat ipagpasalamat sa Red Cross. We couldn’t feel any safer inside our company every day because the Red Cross is there. Kasama namin kayo sa aming first aid series seminars para ihanda ang aming mga empleyado. Umiikot din kami kasama ang PRC sa pagbibigay ng kaalaman sa CPR, psychological first aid, at marami pang iba. We value our partnership with PRC and we’re looking forward to doing more with the organization in the future,” added Unilab Medical Director for Occupational Health Services Julie Cheng.

Meanwhile, the PRC Rizal Chapter also awarded a brand-new Toyota Innova J to Hon. Kristofer Dominguez, Brgy. Chairman of Bagong Silang, Mandaluyong City, and the grand prize winner of the Drive for Humanity raffle for a cause.

All proceeds of the said income-generating initiative will be used to fund various humanitarian programs of the PRC Rizal Chapter.

The Philippine Red Cross (PRC) is calling for donations to help the people affected by the enhanced southwest monsoon (or “habagat”) and Tropical Storm Enteng (internationally known as “Yagi”).

“Just a month after Super Typhoon Carina, another storm has hit us, with the southwest monsoon and Tropical Storm Enteng causing massive flooding and landslides. This has not only disrupted the day-to-day lives of many communities, but has also claimed lives. We are appealing to all to donate any amount you can so that we can enhance our relief efforts for everyone affected,” said PRC Chairman and CEO Richard Gordon.

PRC Secretary General Dr. Gwen Pang remarked: “Your donations will help reinforce our organization’s capacities to give food, water, and other basic necessities to affected communities; strengthen our resources and assets for rescue and response; as well as provide health services as they recover from the disaster. We ask everyone to unite with us in this effort.”

Locals or those residing in the Philippines who are willing to donate may do so through the PRC’s official bank accounts in BDO, BPI, Metrobank, Security Bank, and Asia United Bank (AUB).

The Philippine Red Cross (PRC) is appealing for more support for thousands of families affected by the series of strong earthquakes that jolted Mindanao on October 16, 2019 followed by a series of equally strong tremors.

As families flock to different evacuations centers due to the damage brought by the series of earthquakes and aftershocks, Chairman Richard Gordon reached out to the public to assist in the relief effort through their donations especially for the residents of North Cotabato and Davao Del Sur, two of the badly hit areas.

“More than 35,000 families or 178,305 individual shave been affected in Regions 11 and 12. They are in dire need of assistance such as food, medicine, clean water and essential household items (water containers, kitchen sets, hygiene kits, sleeping kits)especially the most vulnerable,” Gordon said.

PRC has started producing water in Kidapawan City, North Cotabato to ensure adequate and safe drinking water especially for the residents staying in evacuation centers.

“PRC’S Water, Sanitation and Hygiene team provides clean and safe water the affected families and individuals suffering from the disruption of the water systems in these areas,” Gordon added.

PRC North Cotabato-Kidapawan City Chapter provided hot meals to almost 3,000 individuals in Old Bulatukan and Malasila Elementary Schools in Makilala, North Cotabato, administered first-aid,conducted psychological counselling, distributed beneficiary cards to 529 families and potable water to Barangay Ilomavis residents.

In Davao Del Sur, water distribution in the municipalities of Magsaysay, Balabag and Digos City is ongoing, 271 families in the Municipality of Bansalan were also provided with sleeping and health kits while construction of latrines and shower facilities continues in Barangay Tarapuay and Kinuskusan.

“Rest assured that there is a Red Cross that is always first, always ready, always there to help the most vulnerable during calamities.Since the first quake struck Mindanao on October 16, our teams have been working round-the-clock, providing first aid and other humanitarian services,” Gordon said.
