Using hoses connected to its 10,000-liter tanker truck, Philippine Red Cross (PRC) volunteers and staff work with DepEd personnel to flush mud left by Severe Tropical Storm Paeng (international name: Nalgae) in schools. As of today, 07 November, the combined Red Cross and DepEd teams have flushed mud in Santa Rosa Central School, Aplaya Elementary School, Aplaya National High School, and the Schools Division Office.

“I received a request from Santa Rosa City Schools Division Superintendent Ms. Manuela Tolentino to help them flush their schools of mud left by Paeng. Deeply concerned with the education of our children set back by the pandemic, I deployed a 10,000-liter tanker truck to flush the mud in their schools,” PRC Chairman and CEO Richard J. Gordon said.

PRC volunteers also hosed the old City Hall area, the Santa Rosa Covid facilities, the vicinity of the National Bureau of Investigation office, Laparan Street, Tatlong Hari Street, and Barangay Market Area to flush mud left by Paeng. As of today, 07 November, the PRC payloader has cleared 1,078 cubic meters of mud, or equivalent to 77 dump trucks full of mud in Santa Rosa.

Santa Rosa City is among the cities across the country that experienced flooding as a result of the storm. Parts of the city were covered by mud three to four inches thick in the aftermath of Paeng. PRC volunteers and staff have responded to Paeng-affected communities across the country since 28 October by providing emergency rescue and evacuation, shelter strengthening kits, emergency medical services, health care information and supplies, hot meals and food items, water, clothes, slippers, psychological first aid, sleeping kits, hygiene kits, road clearing, and flushing.

The Philippine Red Cross (PRC) vaccinates 1,300 individuals belonging to the A4 category through its Bakuna Center in Light Industry and Science Park 2, Calamba, Laguna last October 27, 2021.
PRC Laguna Chapter, headed by its Chapter Administrator Frank Sorromero, spearheaded the vaccination efforts in Laguna with the assistance of the local government unit. As of October 15, 2021, PRC Laguna Chapter vaccinated 16,255 individuals through its Bakuna Bus and Bakuna Centers.
This initiative is part of the vision of PRC Chairman and CEO Sen. Dick Gordon to give the residents of Laguna access to PRC humanitarian services. On the same day, PRC also led the groundbreaking ceremony of the soon-to-build Blood Bank at the City of Sta. Rosa Laguna.
Dick Gordon said.
PRC Laguna Chapter will continue to be of service to the most vulnerable people in Laguna, abiding by its mantra to be always first, always ready, and always there where help is needed.

The Philippine Red Cross (PRC) leads the groundbreaking ceremony of the new PRC Blood Bank that will soon rise in Sta. Rosa Laguna on October 27, 2021. The blood bank will serve the entire city and nearby cities such as Binan and San Pedro, Laguna, with a total population of 1,148, 250 as of 2020.

The groundbreaking ceremony will be attended virtually by PRC Chairman and CEO Sen. Dick Gordon, PRC Secretary General Elizabeth Zavalla, City Mayor Hon. Arlene Arcillas, Chairman of the Laguna Chapter Dir. Jaime B. Ching, Chapter Administrator Frank Gray M. Sorromero, and President of Isuzu Philippines Corporation Mr. Hajime Koso.

“Ako ay nagpapasalamat sa ating local government unit, donors, Board of Directors, staff, at volunteers sa inyong dedikasyon upang masimulan itong blood bank facility. Sa pamamagitan ng blood bank ay mas marami tayong matutulungan na higit na nangangailangan ng dugo. Mapapabilis din ang paghahatid ng services gaya ng blood services, disaster response, recovery, psychosocial first aid amongst others. Patuloy ang Philippine Red Cross sa pagtupad sa aming mantra to be always first, always ready, and always there kung saan nangangailangan ng tulong,” PRC Chairman and CEO Sen. Dick Gordon said.

PRC Laguna Chapter dispensed 71,640 units of blood from 2019 to September 2021. The soon-to-be-constructed blood bank will increase the chapter’s capacity to serve more individuals who need blood.

More than blood, the PRC Laguna Chapter started various initiatives to combat COVID-19. The PRC Laguna Chapter collected more than 5,995 saliva specimens in its saliva collection sites since opening in February 2021. The chapter also vaccinated more than 16,255 individuals in its Bakuna Centers and Bakuna Bus through the support of the International Federation of Red Cross and Red Crescent Societies (IFRC.)

The PRC Laguna Chapter continues to deliver its humanitarian services to alleviate human suffering and uplift the dignity of the most vulnerable community of Laguna.
