Philippine Red Cross (PRC) Rizal Chapter is full force in handling COVID-19 response. The chapter is one of the biggest chapters of PRC which operates in the areas of Rizal, Mandaluyong, Makati, Muntinlupa, Pasig-Pateros, Taguig, Paranaque, San Juan, and Las Pinas.

PRC Rizal chapter established various initiatives under the leadership of PRC Chairman and CEO Sen. Dick Gordon in handling the Covid-19 pandemic throughout the jurisdiction of Rizal chapter.

“Tuloy tuloy ang ating pagtulong sa mga most vulnerable groups under the Rizal chapter. Ang goal natin sa Red Cross ay mabigyan tulong ang mga taong nasasakupan nito, upang makapagbigay pag-asa sa ating mamamayan. We need to act fast to defeat this invisible enemy. Together we can win our war against COVID-19,” PRC Chairman and CEO Sen. Dick Gordon.

PRC Rizal chapter established a Bakuna Center in Arcovia Pasig in partnership with Pasig local government unit and Megaworld Corporation and San Lorenzo Mall Makati Bakuna Center. These bakuna centers vaccinated 21, 076 and 29, 389 respectively.

Aside from the Bakuna Centers, PRC Rizal chapter also rolled out its Bakuna Busses to Antipolo, Tanay, Cardona, and Taytay, and have vaccinated over 3,400 individuals.

The Bakuna Bus will be deployed inSan Juan City to support LHU in vaccination centers and Paranaque City to vaccinate 24 senior citizen sisters from the daughters of charity.

The chapter also deployed food trucks to Rizal province, Muntinlupa, Taguig and Paranaque, where the PRC provided ready-to-eat meals to 3,000 residents.

More than COVID-19 response, PRC Rizal chapter continues to provide other humanitarian services like psychosocial support to Pasig LGU frontliners weekly, provision of portable hand washing units in public spaces, provision of cleaning kits in health/quarantine center, and promoting hygiene activities to individuals under PRC RIzal chapter.

Philippine Red Cross (PRC) Covid-19 response started with the vision of PRC Chairman and CEO Sen. Dick Gordon, who saw testing as a way to “drain the swamp.”

The country had to rely heavily on the Research Institute for Tropical Medicine (RITM) and a handful of other laboratories that only test 300 samples per day.

Sen. Dick Gordon envisioned fighting the invisible enemy by testing as many people as quickly as possible, thereby identifying and isolating those who contacted COVID-19. From then on, PRC established its first molecular laboratory that could test 2,000 individuals per day.

PRC has 14 molecular laboratories, positioned in key-strategic areas nationwide, capable of testing more than 48,000 tests per day.

But Chairman Gordon did not stop in finding more ways to beat this invisible enemy. PRC continues to search for a more affordable, faster, and non-invasive method of testing. The research led PRC to introduce the country’s first and only saliva RT-PCR test, which only costs PHP 2,000. The saliva test also uses reverse transcription-polymerase chain reaction, which according to the World Health Organization, and is considered to be the gold standard for COVID-19 testing.

PRC, at that time, is offering the cheapest swab RT-PCR test priced at PHP 4,000, further lowering it to 3,800, lower than the PHP 4,500-PHP 5,000 price range set by the Department of Health and Department of Trade and Industry for RT-PCR testing for private laboratories.

To date, PRC lowers its testing fees for the second time, pricing it from PHP 3,800 to PHP 2,800 for swab RT-PCR and from PHP 2,000 – PHP 1,500 for saliva RT-PCR test, making RT-PCR tests affordable to the public.

More than testing, PRC also established different Isolation Facilities in UP, Ateneo, De La Salle College-Benilde, Makati Science Highschool, Adamson University, and Cagayan to cater to asymptomatic spreaders, and prevent household transmission.

Due to the rising cases of COVID-19 last April 2021, PRC Chairman Gordon was alarmed by the news of people dying outside the hospital, while waiting to be admitted. Without hesitation, Chairman Gordon immediately deployed a 100-bed capacity Emergency Field Hospital at the Lung Center of the Philippines to serve mild-moderate cases. This was followed by the deployment of Medical tents at the National Kidney Transplant Institute and assisted 30 more hospitals nationwide. To date, PRC medical tents have catered to more than 34,810 individuals since the start of the pandemic.

PRC also assisted communities through various cash distributions nationwide, deployment of Hot Meals on Wheels, and other activities of PRC to battle COVID-19.

PRC continues to be at the forefront of the COVID-19 pandemic through various initiatives by the humanitarian organization, together with our partner national societies, staff, and volunteers, through the leadership of Sen. Dick Gordon.

The Philippine Red Cross (PRC) opened its 14th PRC molecular laboratory in Cotabato City to further boost PRC testing capacity for COVID-19 on September 18, 2021.

The molecular laboratory is equipped with two polymerase chain reaction (PCR) machines and one ribonucleic acid (RNA) extractor, which can process up to 2,000 tests a day. The new molecular laboratory is in partnership with the International Committee of the Red Cross (ICRC), and will serve Maguindanao, North Cotabato, South Cotabato and even Davao City.

PRC Chairman and CEO Sen. Dick Gordon, PRC Secretary General Elizabeth Zavalla, PRC Cotabato Chairwoman Bai Fatima P. Sinsuat, Mayor Frances Cynthia J. Guiani-Sayadi and other executives from the Red Cross and local government unit of Cotabato attended the virtual inauguration of the newly built molecular laboratory.

“I would like to thank the International Committee of the Red Cross for this partnership in defeating COVID-19. Sa ngayon ay 200 test per day lamang ang capacity ng Cotabato Regional and Medical Center at sa pamamagitan ng bagong Molecular Laboratory this will further hasten our COVID-19 response and can test up to 2,000 tests per day,” Sen. Dick Gordon said.

Chairman Gordon also emphasized the importance of regular testing to beat this invisible enemy. PRC recently lowered its RT-PCR testing fees for swab and saliva test from 3,800-2,800 and 2,000-1,500 respectively.

PRC also is ramping up vaccination efforts nationwide to get more people vaccinated as soon as possible through the Bakuna centers and PRC bakuna busses having inoculated over 217,808 individuals.

The Philippine Red Cross (PRC) will conduct a webinar on suicide prevention for the Bangsamoro Youth in celebration of World Suicide Prevention Day 2021 on September 10.

PRC Red Cross Youth will facilitate the interactive webinar on suicide prevention, in partnership with the Bangsamoro youth commission, Bangsamoro Autonomous Region in Muslim Mindanao (BARMM), German Red Cross, Spanish Red Cross, and funded by the European Union.

The webinar will cover a series of topics with Gab Valenciano, a mental health advocate, celebrity, and guest speaker. Gab will talk about the story of hope, while Psychiatrist Dr. Agnes Casino will tackle suicide prevention and response, and Social Worker Predinson Morales will discuss dealing with distressed individuals.

“We need to focus and give assistance to the mental health of our youth Muslim brothers and sisters in the BARMM region. Some of them don’t have access, so we in the Red Cross will conduct a webinar for mental health support,” PRC Chairman and CEO Sen. Dick Gordon said.

Recently PRC conducted a webinar series, as part of the Welfare Services peace and development project to reduce the impact of the covid-19 pandemic and foster the public health system and socioeconomic development in BARMM last Aug 2021.

The Philippine Red Cross (PRC) has built a total of 151,000 houses for the most vulnerable families in response to the damages brought by numerous typhoons since Sen. Dick Gordon held the position as Chairman and CEO of the humanitarian organization.

Aside from the full-shelter assistance program, PRC also distributes cash assistance for shelter repair, corrugated galvanized irons (CGI) sheets, and shelter repair tool kits to help typhoon-affected residents in the restoration of their houses.

“Patuloy ang Red Cross sa pagbibigay ng pag-asa sa ating mga kababayan. Dapat sila ay may bubong upang mapanatiling ligtas at makatulog sa gabi lalo na ang mga most vulnerable families sa panahon ng sakuna. WE WANT TO PROTECT THEM,” Sen. Dick Gordon said.

This initiative by the Philippine Red Cross, together with our partner national societies has brought hope to more than 151,000 families and brought dignity to every beneficiary it served.

Recently, PRC held a ground breaking activity to provide full shelter assistance to 167 families in Albay. PRC also delivers humanitarian assistance through various cash assistance, deploying food trucks, and psychosocial support to affected communities.

The Philippine Red Cross (PRC) set up an emergency tent last April 2021, after reports of patients dying outside the hospital premises during the COVID-19 surge that led to the hospital exceeding the critical level of 70% of new COVID-19 cases in the national capital region.

PRC Chairman and CEO Sen. Dick Gordon immediately deployed an emergency field hospital at the Lung Center of the Philippines and National Kidney Transplant Institute to serve as an extension ward to the hospitals, catering to mild to moderate COVID-19 cases.

“We are in a war situation against COVID-19. The health care system in the NCR plus region is challenged due to the increasing cases of Covid-positive individuals. Through the emergency field hospitals of the Red Cross, this will help serve more patients needing immediate health care,” according to Chairman Gordon.

PRC has deployed 108 tents in total, having served more than 32,194 patients needing immediate healthcare.

According to Sen. Dick Gordon, these emergency tents are equipped with medical equipment such as oxygen tanks, ECG machine, PPV and Intubation set, Automated External Defibrillator, and other basic ward facilities that make PRC be always ready in every situation where help is needed.

GORDON: DO NOT LET YOUR GUARD DOWN

Philippine Red Cross (PRC) Chairman and CEO Sen. Dick Gordon strongly advises the public to always keep their guard up as COVID-19 cases in the country continue to rise. The Department of Health (DOH) recorded the third single-day tally with 20,019 new covid cases that bring the country’s caseload to 2,080,984.  In addition, the entire NCR, except for Manila, is at Alert Level 4 as the Delta variant is detected across all areas.

PRC is going above and beyond to beat the pandemic by deploying Bakuna Buses nationwide, vaccinating thousands of Filipinos daily. PRC also established different Bakuna Centers nationwide, continues operation of its emergency field hospital and isolation facilities, and leads the country for COVID-19 testing, having conducted over 4 million tests with an average additional tests of 8,000 daily

“We need to protect ourselves from this virus. Dapat lahat tayo ay magpabakuna in order to protect not just ourselves, but also the people around us. Importante din na tayo ay regular na magpatest, dahil through testing dito natin malalaman kung tayo ay positive o hindi,” Dick Gordon said.

As the premier humanitarian organization, PRC has been working tirelessly as an auxiliary to the government in its fight against COVID-19.

Since the declaration of a public health emergency, PRC has been at the forefront of the COVID-19 response program to alleviate human suffering and uplift the dignity of the people.

The Philippine Red Cross (PRC) vaccinated over 3,050 individuals through its bakuna bus last Sept. 03, 2021, prioritizing individuals belonging to the A1-A3 categories.

The Bakuna Bus is PRC’s 16-fleet of mobile vaccines, which roams around the different parts of the country vaccinating communities even in far-flung areas. The bakuna bus was first used during the polio-measles & rubella vaccination.

“We need to ramp up our vaccination, mas marami ang hindi nabakunahan, mas mataas ang chance na mas marami ang magkaka severe cases dahil sa COVID-19. All vaccines work, the best way to protect yourself from COVID-19 is vaccination,” Sen. Dick Gordon said.

All the vaccines administered by the bakuna bus are free of charge. PRC through the leadership of Chairman Gordon handles all the expenses and allowances of manpower to operate the 16 bakuna bus and 20 bakuna centers.
