The Philippine Red Cross (PRC) continues to provide clean and potable water in the province of Lapu-Lapu, months after Typhoon Odette (International name: Rai) struck the Visayas and Mindanao region. PRC staff and volunteers were deployed and distributed 30,000 liters of water in Brgy. Mactan, Brgy. Soong, and Brgy. Pusok last February 28, 2022.

Simultaneously, PRC also conducted hygiene promotion to 600 individuals in Brgy. Mactan, 500 individuals in Brgy. Soong Mactan, and Brgy. Pusok to help raise awareness on access to clean and safe water to the residents affected by the typhoon. PRC continues to restore the lifelines in the area, as water is still a necessity for the residents who still don’t have access.

“Hindi natin papabayaan ang mga naapektuhan ng bagyong odette, buwan na ang lumipas ngunit patuloy ang Red Cross staff at volunteers sa pagtulong sa mga labis na naapektuhan ng bagyo. Maipapakita rito ang dedikasyon ng bawat isa na bumubuo sa Red Cross upang maibalik ang dignidad sa tao at makatayo uli sa sariling mga paa,” CHairman Gordon said.

As part of the Red Cross’ commitment to serving the most vulnerable, PRC has already distributed more than 11, 709, 633 liters of clean and potable water and promoted proper hygiene to 220,075 individuals since the start of PRC Odette Operations.

Philippine Red Cross (PRC) Chairman and CEO Sen. Dick Gordon ordered the continued deployment of water tankers in Cebu to provide 13,500 liters of clean and potable water last March 03, 2022.

PRC distributed 3,500 liters of water in Sitio Talisay and 3000 liters in Sitio Acacia, Barangay Arbor, Boljoon, and 3,500 liters each in Purok 1 and Purok 4 in Barangay Gawi, Oslob.

The continued deployment of water tankers is part of Chairman Gordon’s vision to restore the lifeline in the province to alleviate human suffering and uplift the dignity of the people.

Since the start of Typhoon Odette operations, PRC has distributed more than 12 million liters of water to the affected residents. Along with the distribution of water, PRC also conducted hygiene promotion to 221, 792 individuals to educate the people on the importance of access to clean and safe water.

“Hindi namin kayo papabayaan. Nagpapasalamat ako sa aming mga partners at donors para mapagpatuloy ang Typhoon Odette operations sa mga apektadong lugar. Narito ang Philippine Red Cross hanggang kayo ay makabangon at makatayo sa sariling mga paa,” Gordon said.

PRC also handed out sleeping kits and tarpaulins to 308 families in Brgy. Sta. Rita at the Municipality of Cagdianao, Surigao del Norte.

The Philippine Red Cross (PRC) received a PHP 218,919.00 donation from Canon Marketing Philippines Inc. (CMPI) during a virtual turnover event last March 04, 2022. The donation is part of CMPI’s corporate social responsibility to aid the most vulnerable and those affected by Super Typhoon Odette (international name: Rai).

The virtual turnover was attended by CMPI President & CEO Mr. Kazuhiro Ozawa, CMPI Vice President Mr. Anuj Aggarwal, CMPI Corporate Planning Head Mr. Eric Villanueva, CI-Tech President Mr. Tsutomu Sazuka, CI-Tech Vice President Mr. Rolando Martinez, PRC Assistant Secretary-General Ramon B. No less than the Philippine Red Cross (PRC) Chairman and CEO, Senator Dick Gordon, ordered the quick deployment of the PRC fire team which swiftly responded to a fire breaking out within the Baseco Compound at the Port Area District in the City of Manila. The fire started at around 8:40 AM, this Friday morning, March 4, 2022.

“Kaagad natin dineploy ang dalawang firetrucks natin at isang ambulansiya upang makatulong sa pagsugpo ng sunog diyan sa Baseco Compound. I also instructed the PRC Manila Chapter to send our Hot Meals on Wheels food truck, upang agad na may makain ang ating mga kababayan diyan na apektado ng sunog,” said PRC Chairman Gordon.

PRC sent two fire trucks along with a 15-man Emergency Response Unit team as well as an ambulance crew. The ambulance team treated and transported an injured patient to nearby Gat Andress Bonifacio Memorial Medical Center. As of 9:45 AM, the fire was already under control.

Additionally, PRC Manila Chapter will be deploying one of the Red Cross’ food trucks dubbed as Hot Meals On Wheels to feed 100 affected individuals.

“March is Fire Prevention Month, kaya naman pinapaalalahanan natin ang ating mga kababayan na laging mag-ingat upang makaiwas sa sunog. Ang Philippine Red Cross ay laging handang rumesponde at umalalay sa anumang sakuna, lalong lalo na sa pagsugpo ng apoy,” added Gordon.

PRC REMINDS THE PUBLIC ON FIRE SAFETY

Philippine Red Cross (PRC) Chairman and CEO Sen. Dick Gordon is calling the public in practicing household-level fire safety measures to prevent suffering heavy losses due to fire incidents in observance of the fire prevention month starting March 01, 2022.

Since the start of the year, PRC responded to 31 fire incidents in the country. With a total fleet of 19 fire trucks, PRC is ready to help the local government unit to be always first, always ready, and always there to respond to fire emergencies.

PRC Chairman Gordon also reiterated the importance of the organization’s 4Ps principle—Predict, Plan, Prepare, Practice—to uphold the safety of every family.

“Isang paalala po sa publiko ang pag oobserve ng tamang fire safety sa ating mga tahanan. Ang fire safety ay isang shared responsibility sa ating lahat upang maiwasan ang sunog at madamay ang iba. By practicing fire safety, you can not only save your family or loved ones but especially those around you,” Chairman Gordon said.

PRC is in full support of the campaign of Bureau of Fire Protection (BFP) to raise fire prevention awareness throughout the month of March, which is said to have the most number of fire incidents due to the peaking of temperatures.

In line with this, PRC reminds the public to practice the following fire prevention tips:

1. Do not smoke in bed.

2. Crush cigarette butts thoroughly before discarding them.

3. Do not throw them into wastebaskets.

4. Keep lighted candles, oil or gas lamps away from curtains and other objects that easily catch fire.

9. your electrical installations regularly and have all frayed wiring, damaged sockets, switches and other defective electrical fixtures changed or repaired promptly.

10. All electrical installations, repairs and changes should be undertaken by licensed electricians. Never run electrical cords under rugs.

Philippine Red Cross (PRC) Chairman and CEO Sen. Dick Gordon continues to deploy PRC’s Bakuna Bus, Bakuna Centers, and Bakuna Teams to help the local government unit in ramping up the vaccination efforts to protect unvaccinated individuals. Last February 21, 2022, PRC vaccinated 2,374 individuals in Navotas, Laguna, Tarlac, Pangasinan, General Santos, Sultan Kudarat, Lanao del Sur, Agusan del Norte, and Surigao del Norte.

Despite the lowering of COVID-19 cases in the country, Chairman Gordon urges everyone to get vaccinated or have additional protection through getting booster shots. Chairman Gordon said that it is imperative to get vaccinated to prevent severe cases due to COVID-19 and prevent another outbreak like what happened during the start of 2022, where the Department of Health (DOH) is reporting almost 32,000 new cases per day. Last February 21, 2022, the DOH reported 1,427 new cases.

“Kailangan ay magingat pa rin tayo sa COVID-19, kahit na bumababa ang kaso, dapat hindi natin kalimutan ang pag practce ng health protocols, ang pag-suot ng face mask, at pagsanitize ng mga kamay. Patuloy ang Red Cross sa pag abot sa mga malalayong lugar sa pamamagitan ng Bakuna Buses upang mabigyan proteksyon ang mga taong nangangailangan nito,” Gordon said.

Since March 2021, when PRC started its vaccination program, the humanitarian organization has already administered 1,020,230 doses of COVID-19 vaccines through the 17 Bakuna Buses, 26 Bakuna centers, and Bakuna team, to help the different local government units to hasten the vaccination efforts and protect the people from the virus.
