RED CROSS STRENGTHEN ITS RELIEF RESPONSE THROUGH THE PROCUREMENT OF 5 ADDITIONAL FOOD TRUCKS

The Philippine Red Cross (PRC) procured five additional food trucks on top of its existing 23 food trucks to strengthen the response of food items in disaster-stricken communities. The Hot Meals on Wheels, a first of its kind in the country, is part of PRC’s quick response program serving the most vulnerable in times of disaster, calamities, conflict, and pandemic.

PRC has a total of 28 food trucks, stationed in key-strategic areas nationwide to hasten relief operations in times of disaster. The Hot Meals on Wheels program first started in 2005, through the vision and initiative of PRC Chairman and CEO Sen. Dick Gordon to provide food to the most vulnerable.

“Ako ay nagpapasalamat sa American Red Cross dahil 3 sa bagong food truck ay mula sa suporta ng ating partner national society. Itong bagong food truck ay magsisilbing pag-asa sa mga taong naapektuhan ng kalamidad. Sa pamamagitan ng bagong food truck ay mas lalo natin mapapabilis ang ating tulong sa mga tao,” Chairman Dick Gordon said.

The food truck has played a vital role in PRC’s emergency response thru the delivery of hot meals in evacuation centers. Each food truck is equipped with industrial size burners, and steamers, and other cooking equipment.

The hot meals on wheels fleet is just one of the developments seen as Gordon leads the Philippine Red Cross modernization program.

PHILIPPINE RED CROSS RESPONDS TO A FIRE INCIDENT IN PORT AREA MANILA

The Philippine Red Cross (PRC) responded to a fire incident that started at 6:45 PM and reached the 2nd alarm. The fire affected an estimated 100 families and damaged 50 houses at Brgy. 649 Baseco Compound, Port Area Manila last October 13, 2021.

PRC Chairman and CEO Sen. Dick Gordon mobilized and deployed two fire trucks with 13 manpower to immediately extinguish the fire. PRC also sent out its ambulance to assist the affected residents, which needed immediate medical assistance.

“Kaagad nagpadala ang Red Cross ng mga fire trucks at ambulansya upang masiguro ang agarang aksyon. Laging naka alerto ang gaming operation center 24/7 upang masiguradong na mabigyan ng tulong ang mga most vulnerable sa panahon ng emergencies,” Chairman Gordon said.

The fire was out at 9:30 PM. PRC continuously monitors and assesses the situation to determine additional needs by the affected residents.

“Laging handa tumulong ang Philippine Red Cross sa panahon ng pangangailangan. As we abide by our mandate to be always first, always ready, and always there,” Gordon added.

PHILIPPINE RED CROSS LAUNCHES HOME SERVICE SALIVA RT-PCR TEST IN METRO MANILA

The Philippine Red Cross (PRC) launches its home service saliva RT-PCR test through its partnership with Angkas, the first and largest app-based professional motorcycle taxi service in the country, starting October 13, 2021.

PRC and Angkas held a memorandum of agreement last February 24, 2021, just a month after the introduction of the Philippines’ first and only Saliva RT-PCR test. This partnership will provide easy, safer, and faster access for the clients who want to get tested for COVID-19.

The partnership includes PRC membership program enrollment of all Angkas riders, employees, and family members. In line with this, Angkas riders will also receive first aid training, which will enable them to respond to road accidents and give immediate help, becoming emergency responders on the road even during disasters.

Angkas riders will be given the same training and will be certified as Saliva Specimen Collector. The training included proper handling and dispatch, apart from the collection. This partnership will also provide the riders livelihood in this time of the pandemic.

“Our partnership with Angkas is a game-changer because this will further strengthen our reach and capacity to provide service to the most vulnerable – wherever and whenever it is needed. Ang goal natin ay mas mapabilis ang pagbibigay natin ng serbisyo at dadalhin natin ito sa kanilang mga bahay. Every minute matters in life-saving, and having quick access through the use of motorcycles and a network of trained volunteers will make a great difference,” PRC Chairman and CEO Sen. Dick Gordon said.

To date, PRC has already tested 4,603,371 tests, which is 21% of the country’s national testing output, through its 14 molecular laboratories. By strengthening PRC’s testing efforts, will provide the Filipinos with safer and happier holidays.

CHAIRMAN DICK GORDON URGES THE PUBLIC TO GET TESTED REGULARLY FOR COVID-19

The Philippine Red Cross (PRC) Chairman and CEO Sen. Dick Gordon urged the public to get tested regularly to prevent transmission of COVID-19 after a Social Weather Stations (SWS) survey showed that 91% of Filipinos are bothered that they might transmit or be affected by COVID-19.

As the holiday season is just around the corner, PRC strengthens its testing by introducing the saliva RT-PCR test home service through a partnership with Angkas. PRC priced its home service for PHP 700 for same-day booking and PHP 400 for next-day booking. PRC, recently lowered its price for saliva RT-PCR test from PHP 2,000 to PHP 1,500.

“I am urging everyone to get tested regularly to prevent transmission. Dahil thru testing lamang natin malalaman kung tayo ay positive o hindi. Dahil sa binaba na natin ang presyo ng testing at mayroon ng home service saliva RT-PCR test ay magiging mas ligtas na ang pagpapatest. This will be beneficial for senior citizens, persons with disabilities, pregnant women, at yung mga may comorbidities,” PRC Chairman and CEO Sen. Dick Gordon said.

PRC continues its fight against COVID-19, as the humanitarian organization strengthens its testing and vaccination efforts to fight the invisible enemy.

“Kapag tayo ay nagbakauna at nag patest, ay mas mapapabilis natin ang pag balik sa trabaho, makakabalik ang mga bata sa eskwelahan, at mabubuksan ulit natin ang ating ekonomiya,” Gordon added.

PRC AIDS PALAWAN DUE TO TROPICAL STORM MARING

The Philippine Red Cross (PRC) assisted Palawan, through the deployment of staff and volunteers to distribute face masks and serve Hot Meals to 150 individuals at the evacuation center in Brgy. Malinao, Narra, which was affected by Tropical Storm (TS) Maring, causing waist to chest deep flood.

An estimate of 300 families are affected in various municipalities in the South of Palawan. PRC Palawan chapter will continue to provide humanitarian interventions in the different affected areas.

“Sa panahon ng sakuna, laging nariyan ang Philippine Red Cross upang tumulong sa mga nangangailangan. Nakaalerto ang buong Philippine Red Cross kasama ang ating mga chapter’s upang mas mabilis ang paghahatid ng tulong sa mga naapektuhan ng TS Maring,” PRC Chairman and CEO Sen. Dick Gordon said.

PRC already provided assistance to affected communities by TS Maring, conducting rescue operations in flooded areas in Santa Ilocos Sur. PRC will continue to monitor and provide humanitarian interventions as TS Maring causes severe flooding in the different areas of Northern Luzon.

HELP IS ON THE WAY: PRC SENDS HUMANITARIAN CARAVAN TO LA UNION

The Philippine Red Cross (PRC) National Head Quarters, through the directive of the PRC Chairman and CEO, sends a humanitarian caravan to provide immediate assistance to the Tropical Storm (TS) Maring affected residents in La Union.

PRC deploys ten manpower including 6×6 truck, rescue boat, command post, rescue vehicle, food truck, Food-items such as ten 35kg rice, one hundred pcs canned sardines, one hundred pcs beef loaf, and one hundred pcs of canned tuna. PRC Humanitarian Caravan is one of PRC’s first responses to provide immediate assistance to affected communities by typhoons, disasters, calamities, and conflicts.

“Help is on the way! Agad natin ipinadala ang PRC Humanitarian Caravan upang magbigay tulong sa mga naapektuhan ng TS Maring. Isa sa ating layunin sa PRC ay makapag hatid ng pag-asa at magbigay dignidad sa mga taong lubos na naapektuhan ng matinding pagbaha,” Sen. Dick Gordon said.

PRC, through the different PRC chapters, continues to assist affected communities by TS Maring.

GORDON: NO ONE SHOULD BE LEFT BEHIND AS PRC VACCINATES SLMCB AND BJMP IN CEBU

The Philippine Red Cross (PRC) rolls out its Bakuna Bus to vaccinate 333 individuals in Saint Louise De Marillac College of Bogo (SLMCB) and persons deprived of liberty (ODL) in the Bureau of Jail Management and Penology (BJMP) in Bogo City, last October 10, 2021.

PRC Cebu Chapter, through the leadership of Chapter Administrator Vera De Jesus Patel, mobilized its Bakuna Bus along with its staff and volunteers to fully vaccinate 248 individuals, while 84 individuals received their first dose.

“No one should be left behind,” as PRC Chairman and CEO Sen. Dick Gordon stressed the importance of vaccination even for the persons in Jail. “Mahalagang mabakunahan natin ang lahat kasama ang mga nasa kulungan. Ang bakuna ay ang pinaka epektibong proteksyon kontra COVID-19,” Gordon added.

PRC Cebu Chapter continues to deploy its Bakuna Buses in partnership with the local government unit to provide vaccination programs for residents who want to get protected from COVID-19 areas with no access to vaccines.

PRC IS READY FOR TS MARING: EVACUATES FAMILIES IN LANDSLIDE-PRONE AREAS

The Philippine Red Cross (PRC) mobilized its staff and volunteers in preparation as Tropical Storm Maring made landfall, placing parts of Northern Luzon to Signal No. 2.

PRC Cagayan Chapter conducts pre-emptive evacuation to 42 families from zone 7 in landslide-prone areas in Baggao, Cagayan. Twenty-two families in Pamplona were also evacuated, due to the rising water levels.

“Patuloy ang ating pagtulong sa panahon ng bagyo. 24/7 naka tutok ang ating PRC Operation Center sa iba’t ibang lugar na apektado ng TS Maring nang sa gayon ay mabilis ang ating pag responde kapag nagka emergency,” PRC Chairman and CEO Sen. Dick Gordon said.

PRC continues to monitor TS Maring for possible evacuation of the residents. Despite the ongoing pandemic, PRC deploys its staff and volunteers to be of service to the most vulnerable, truly abiding by its mantra to be always first, always ready, and always there.

PRC PROVIDES SUPPORT TO SUNKEN FISHING BOAT SURVIVORS

The Philippine Red Cross (PRC), led by Chairman and CEO Sen. Dick Gordon, mobilized PRC Bacolod City Chapter to provide humanitarian assistance to survivors and surviving families of the submerged fishing boat last September 24, 2021.

The PRC Bacolod Chapter, along with the Disaster Risk Reduction Management (DRRM) Offices of Cadiz City, provided food assistance and psychosocial support to 25 survivors of the submerged fishing boat, which led to 9 casualties.

“Nakikiramay ang buong Philippine Red Cross at ako sa mga namatay sa trahedya. Ipinadala namin ang aming Welfare Services team upang magsagawa ng psychosocial support at magbigay ng food assistance sa mga survivors ng trahedya,” Sen. Dick Gordon said.

The PRC Welfare Services, with the help of its trained staff and volunteers, offers psychosocial support and critical incident stress management to individuals affected by typhoons, calamities, disasters, and conflicts to cope with the current situation.

PRC CHAIRMAN GORDON URGES THE PUBLIC TO KEEP THEIR GUARD UP DESPITE LOWER REPORTED COVID-19 CASES

Philippine Red Cross (PRC) Chairman and CEO Sen. Dick Gordon strongly emphasizes practicing safety protocols when going out despite recent drop in reported new cases. The Department of Health (DOH) reported 9,055 new cases last October 05, 2021, compared to the 20,755 new cases reported last September 26, 2021.

“Ang pagbaba ng kaso ng COVID-19 cases does not mean we should let our guard down. Our battle against this invisible virus is far from over, but we can counter it by encouraging everyone to get vaccinated and get tested regularly to make sure that all people around us are safe from transmission,” Sen. Dick Gordon said.

PRC continues its fight to combat COVID-19 through its Bakuna Centers and Bakuna Buses, vaccinating over 284,689 individuals. PRC also conducted various humanitarian initiatives like the Hot Meals On Wheels food trucks which has provided 94,757 ready-to-eat meals to lockdown affected residents nationwide to date.

Sen. Dick Gordon also urged everyone to get tested regularly for COVID-19. PRC recently lowered its prices for swab and saliva RT-PCR tests, which now cost Php2,800 and Php1,500, respectively. To date, PRC conducted 4,517,998 tests, which is 21% of the country’s national testing output.
