PRC Chairman and CEO Sen. Dick Gordon continued his 2nd day of visit in the Visayas and Mindanao region to personally assess the situation to address the current needs of the Typhoon Odette (international name: Rai) affected residents.

Chairman Gordon will head first to Brgy. Punta Bilar, Surigao City and led the distribution of Jerry cans, Sleeping kits, Tarpaulin, and Hygiene Kits to 300 families. The donation is in partnership with Australian Aid.

Chairman Gordon will continue its route to Brgy. Jubang, Municipality of Dapa, Siargao Island to lead the distribution of food items, which contain soy sauce, salt, sugar, five cans of sardines, 25 kg rice, and 2 liters of cooking oil. Target beneficiaries for the food pack distribution are 250 families. The distribution is in partnership with the International Committee of the Red Cross (ICRC)

“ALL OUT TAYO SA SURIGAO! Ito Pangalawang araw ng aking paglilibot sa mga naapektuhan ng Bagyog Odette. Personal ko na pinuntahan upang makita ko kung ano pa ang mga pangangailangan ng tao upang mabigyan ng agarang aksyon,” Gordon said.

Recently, Chairman Gordon deployed two medical tents with 30 cot beds to support Siargao District Hospital due to the increasing number of diarrhea cases in the area. Chairman Gordon will also visit the medical tents and will turn over 20 boxes of Intravenous (IV) fluid.

During the entire distribution, PRC mobilized its food truck and water tankers to simultaneously distribute hot meals and clean water to the residents in the said areas.

“Mula umaga, hanggang gabi, Tuloy tuloy ang Red Cross sa pagbibigay ng tulong sa mga nangangaialangan. Laging Red Cross ang Una, Laging handa, at Laging Nandyan kung saan kami kailangan,” Gordon said.

One month after Typhoon Odette (international name: Rai) pummeled 325 cities and municipalities across the Visayas, Mindanao, and Palawan region affecting more than 7.8 million individuals, the Philippine Red Cross (PRC) continues to provide humanitarian relief to different areas greatly affected by Typhoon Odette.

Typhoon Odette, hailed as one of the strongest typhoons recorded on earth in 2021, is similar to Typhoon Yolanda (international name: Haiyan), which brought torrential rains, strong winds, floods, and storm surges, affecting everything that comes through its path. 

Although Typhoon Odette is not as powerful as Typhoon Yolanda, Typhoon Odette damage is comparable to one of the most destructive storms to hit the Philippines.

According to the infographic published by the United Nations Office for the Coordination of Humanitarian Affairs (UN OCHA), 1.36 million houses are damaged, displacing 2.9 million individuals.

PRC Chairman and CEO Sen. Dick Gordon said that the humanitarian organization continues to provide non-food items which include 2,240 sleeping kits, 1,008 shelter tool kits, 3,698 tarpaulins, 1,190 mattresses, 706-bed sheets, and 157 blankets to individuals who were displaced by the Typhoon.

“Kaagad tayo namahagi ng mga non-food items kagaya ng mga sleeping kits, shelter tool kits, at mga tarpaulin upang maging temporary shelters sa mga nawalan ng tahanan. Kahit papaano ay malagyan ng bubong ang kanilang mga sarili,” Chairman Gordon said.

last January 13, 2021, Chairman Gordon appealed for more donations from the international community as the humanitarian organization continuously responds to Typhoon Odette-hit communities. Part of the appeal is to provide homes to the most vulnerable families who lost their homes.

Chairman Gordon highlighted that PRC has provided homes to over 151,000 families as part of the recovery process of families affected by typhoons.

Through the leadership of Chairman Gordon, Red Cross provided 80,207 houses to displaced families with the help of the international community and partner national societies.

“Noon pa tayo tumutulong upang mabigyan ng bahay ang mga apektado ng mga nagdaang bagyo. We dont just build houses, but we build hope to the most vulnerable na kahit anong mangyari hindi kayo papabayaan ng Philippine Red Cross,” Gordon said.

Despite the ongoing surge of COVID-19 cases in the country, Red Cross continues to be of service to the Filipino people. PRC is all out against the pandemic response manning the isolation facilities, emergency tents, vaccination centers, and testing centers.

“This should not be a forgotten disaster. A lot of our fellow Filipinos are still struggling from the onslaught of Typhoon Odette. The Red Cross will continue aiding the most vulnerable until they get back on their feet,” Gordon added.

Chairman and CEO Senator Dick Gordon appeals to the public to continue donating to the PRC fund for Typhoon Odette. The fund not only delivers immediate relief, it also goes towards long term recovery efforts to help more affected families rebuild their lives.

Urgent response for Super Typhoon Odette continues in Surigao del Norte as PRC volunteers and staff members work tirelessly.  Already, the PRC distributed more than 55,000 liters of water in Barangays Oslao, Dias, Honrado, Banbanon in Municipality of San Francisco, and Barangay Rizal, Surigao City. 

The team also distributed ready-to-eat meals,(lankets, mosquito nets, plastic mats, tarps, and collapsible jerry cans to 405 families in the hard-hit community of  Barangay Honrado. 

Altogether, as of January 13, 2022, the PRC provided 13,621 hot meals and has distributed 253,000 liters of water in Surigao de Norte.

Water is the most important resource in or outside of a disaster.  Access to clean water for drinking, bathing, and food preparation is essential as a first salvo whenever a disaster strikes.  Improving access to water to Odette-devastated areas, the Philippine Red Cross (PRC), led by Chairman and CEO Sen. Dick Gordon, continues to send its water tankers to different communities in Cebu.

“Every day, we continue to deploy our water tankers to disaster-affected communities to provide timely and efficient support,” said Gordon. 

Today, PRC Cebu Chapter deployed a tanker to distribute 5000 liters of water each to Sitio Laray and Sitio Socorro, in Kamputhaw, and Sitio Fatima and Brgy. Apas in Cebu City. 

Meanwhile, the PRC Lapu-Lapu Chapter also targets distributing water to 104 families at Pusok Elementary School Evacuation Center and 986 families at Sitio Sta. Maria Brgy. Pusok, Lapu-Lapu. Teams from the chapter have also set up a first aid station and a welfare desk to cater to those staying in the Evacuation Center in Brgy. Ibo, Pusok, and Brgy. Buaya. 

As of January 12, 2022, the PRC Cebu Chapter has distributed 614,750 liters of water while PRC Lapu-Lapu has distributed 65,000 liters of water to Odette-affected communities.

“One of the first responses we have in any dire situation is the provision of water.  With PRC’s fleet of water tankers and water facilities, we are able to service several communities at once,” adds Sen. Gordon.

As the Philippine Red Cross(PRC), led by Chairman and CEO Sen. Dick Gordon, continues to address the devastating effects of Super Typhoon Odette, the country’s premier humanitarian organization continues its response operations today with the deployment of water tankers to devastated areas in Negros Oriental Of the total 217,974 liters given as of this date, 30,000 liters were distributed in an evacuation center in Bais.

“No matter the circumstances, we will continue what we do best – give hope and save lives,” reiterates Chairman and CEO Sen. Dick Gordon in a statement.

Support from the Red Cross does not flag, however. Red Cross volunteers packed 800 food items for distribution in partnership with the Iloilo Federation Fire Brigade, while relief items for 441 families are ready for delivery to to Brgy. Owacan, Jimalalud.

To date, more than 8,662 individuals in Negros Oriental have received humanitarian aid from the Red Cross and its partners.

Philippine Red Cross (PRC) Chairman and CEO Sen. Dick Gordon will lead the multipurpose cash grant (MPCG) distribution to 877 individuals in Mandaue City and Cebu City. Non-food items will be distributed to Typhoon Odette (international name: Rai) affected residents in Talisay City on January 06, 2022.

The MPCG will be in two different areas in Cebu. Chairman Gordon will first distribute PHP 3,500 cash assistance to 627 families at Mother Retrude Gym, Brgy. Jagobiao, Mandaue and will traverse to Brgy. Inayawan, Cebu City to distribute PHP 3,500 cash assistance to 250 families.
After the cash distribution, PRC will travel to Talisay Cebu to distribute relief items such as 500 sets of Hygiene Kits, 500 sets of jerry cans, 500 sets of sleeping kits, and 500 sets of tarpaulins.

At the height of Typhoon Odette, Chairman Gordon immediately deployed its payloader to assist in the clearing operations after Typhoon Odette wreaked havoc in the province, causing electrical posts and trees to block roads of debris. Water tankers are also utilized to provide clean and potable water to the affected residents.

PRC also set up a welfare desk to help stranded individuals to reconnect with their families. First aid stations are also put up to provide proper medical healthcare to the residents of Cebu.

“Sabay-sabay tayong babangon mula sa hagupit ni Bagyong Odette. Hatid ng Red Cross ay pag-asa sa mga labis na naapektuhan ng bagyo. Laging kaming narito upang tumulong para maibalik ang dignidad sa mga tao at makatulong na tumayo uli sa sarili nating mga paa,” Chairman Gordon said.

Through the leadership of Chairman Gordon, PRC is all-out in its Typhoon Odette Operation in Cebu. It cleared 315 cubic yards of debris using a payloader to make way for more relief. It then provided ready-to-eat meals to 5,169 individuals in Cebu through its Hot Meals on Wheels program, supported 71 individuals with psychosocial support, distributed 338,750 liters of water, and facilitated hygiene promotion sessions with 10,232 individuals.

To combat COVID-19, PRC conducted vaccination drives through its Bakuna Bus and Bakuna Buses and led the COVID-19 testing through establishing the Mandaue City molecular laboratory.

PRC also provided 8,671 houses in the province of Cebu.
