With the constant need for a regular supply of blood, the Philippine Red Cross(PRC) continues to be at the forefront of helping save lives despite the ongoing COVID-19 pandemic and the devastation caused by the recent Super Typhoon Odette. 

Through the leadership of Chairman and CEO Senator Dick Gordon, the PRC Blood Program continues to provide fifty percent of the country’s blood supply in their 99 Blood Facilities nationwide. Wrapping up the month of January, the PRC has served 13, 100 patients, dispensing 20,980 units of blood since January 1, 2022.

” As the need for blood never stops, we will continue to advocate the importance of blood donation in saving the lives of millions of Filipinos,” said Gordon. 

Gordon also calls on the people to keep in touch with the 104 Red Cross Chapters or call the PRC hotline 143 for urgent blood concerns. “No matter who you are, you can play a role in helping save lives by giving the valuable gift of blood. By regularly donating, bloodstock will be sufficient before an emergency arises,” added Gordon.

Port Area,Manila- The Philippine Red Cross(PRC) Hemodialysis Center has now done 14,006 hemodialysis treatments as of February 1, 2022 since welcoming its first patients back in February 2019.

“We established a hemodialysis center to strengthen the Red Cross humanitarian efforts to uplift human dignity,” said Chairman and CEO Dick Gordon. 

Despite the ongoing pandemic, the PRC Hemodialysis Center has remained in operation and has treated over 71 patients providing 7,183 treatments last 2020, and 3942 treatments last 2021. 

Right now, the PRC Hemodialysis Center has 22 patients and is actively looking for more since the facility can accommodate up to 90 patients, depending on whether they are on a twice or thrice a week hemodialysis program. With its 15 state-of-the-art dialysis machines donated by Dr. Takao Suzuki, the chairperson of Tokushukai General Inc. Association, and hemodialysis treatments funded by the Bloomberry Foundation, the PRC is offering the Hemodialysis Samaritan Program to patients needing hemodialysis treatment.

Philippine Red Cross (PRC) Chairman and CEO Sen. Dick Gordon led the online turnover of PHP 2,451,266 donations from Nestle Philippines Inc. to support PRC’s ongoing typhoon Odette operations.

Chairman Gordon expressed his gratitude to Nestle Philippines Inc. for the much-needed donation to assist the most vulnerable families affected by Super Typhoon Odette that affected millions of Filipinos in the Palawan, Visayas, and Mindanao region.

Nestle Philippines Inc. is a long-time partner of PRC in responding to disasters and the pandemic to alleviate human suffering and uplift the dignity of the people. Nestle Philippines recently donated PHP 10,000,000 for Covid-19 operations in 2020, PHP 203,330 during Mindanao Earthquake in 2019, PHP 1,064,930 for other humanitarian interventions in 2018 and 2017, PHP 1,000,000 for millennium partnership and PHP 10,000,000 donation to PRC in 2016.

“Nestle Philippines Inc. has always been a partner of the Philippine Red Cross as part of its corporate social responsibility. Your donation will boost and provide additional support to the Filipino people greatly affected by Typhoon Odette. May we always are partners who support each other in every Red Cross endeavor,” Chairman Gordon said.

Almost two months following what was recorded as the most destructive storm in 2021, PRC continues to provide aid to locals across Visayas, Mindanao, and Palawan through the continuous deployment of PRC assets to alleviate human suffering and uplift the dignity of the people.

The Philippine Red Cross (PRC) receives PHP 1,000,000 donation from Mitsubishi Motors Philippines Corporation (MMPC) to support Typhoon Odette-hit communities in delivering immediate relief and long term rehabilitation programs. 

MMPC donation will fund PRC’s humanitarian interventions in the areas greatly affected by Typhoon Odette. This will also be utilized to prepare relief packages that will be distributed to households particularly in Surigao Del Norte as they move out of temporary shelters into transitional housing that enable more stability in terms of livelihood and daily living.

“MMPC would like to thank the Philippine Red Cross for giving us the opportunity to help families that were affected by Typhoon Odette. We understand the magnitude of devastation that they absorbed and Mitsubishi Motors aims to assist with their recovery,” said MMPC President and CEO, Mr. Takeshi Hara during the official virtual turnover that was held last February 4, Friday. 

“Our commitment to the Philippines goes beyond providing quality cars and vehicle service as it extends to a vision of being a medium in making the life of every Filipino better. Through this contribution, we hope to make an impact not just to the beneficiaries but also inspire other capable organizations to follow suit.”

MMPC is a long-time partner of PRC in responding to disasters to provide immediate relief to the affected families through donating PHP 500,000 during Mindanao Earthquake in 2020,  PHP 500,000 during the eruption of Mayon Volcano in 2018, and PHP 7,368,000 donation to PRC last 2015.

PRC continues to be of service to the Filipino greatly affected by Super Typhoon Odette through continues operation of the food truck in Hot Meals in distribution, Water tankers in distributing clean and potable water, food and non-food relief, psychosocial support, clearing operations, and multi-purpose cash grants to help families recover.

HELP CONTINUES IN SOUTHERN LEYTE

Philippine Red Cross (PRC) continues to provide aid to the most vulnerable families in Southern Leyte through food item distribution to 396 families affected by Super Typhoon Odette.

PRC Chairman and CEO Sen. Dick Gordon also deployed a payloader to help in clearing 120 cubic meters of debris in Sindangan, Macrohon. The payloaders are used to clear roads to make way for more relief as the Humanitarian organization continues to assist Typhoon affected families in far-flung areas.

“We should not forget that there are people still suffering from the effects of the Typhoon. Almost 2 months since Typhoon Odette wreaked havoc in these areas, PRC staff and volunteers continue to be of service to the Filipino people so that they can get back on their feet, ” Sen. Gordon said.

To combat COVID-19 in the area and prevent waterborne diseases, PRC conducted hygiene promotion to 396 individuals and taught them proper hygiene by providing access to clean water.

Manila, Philippines- Bringing vaccines closer to more communities, the Philippine Red Cross (PRC) Bakuna Bus returned to Hospicio de San Jose to vaccinate 85 adult and pediatric individuals against Covid-19 on February 9, 2022. 

This activity is the second deployment of the PRC Bakuna Bus to the social welfare institution as volunteers from the chapter have vaccinated more than 100 senior citizens, bedridden clients, persons with comorbidities, and health workers last August 13, 2021, with the Johnson and Johnson vaccine.

Volunteers from the PRC Manila Chapter vaccinated individuals, including Hospicio de San Jose employees, with Moderna, AstraZeneca, and Pfizer for adults and minors aged 12-17 years old. 

Apart from the PRC Vaccination Program, PRC volunteers also accommodated 46 Covid-19 positive individuals composed of mostly senior citizens from the social welfare institution, transporting patients via ambulance to a PRC Isolation Facility located at Adamson University last August 29, 2021.

” All the PRC volunteers and staff are to increase their efforts to fight against Covid-19. What is important is that we do our mission which is to serve humankind,” Sen. Richard Gordon added.

The Philippine Red Cross (PRC) reminds everyone to practice health and safety protocols for individuals attending the campaign rallies set in different areas nationwide. The Philippines entered the official campaign period on Tuesday, February 8, 2022, which will differ from past elections as this is the first time that the campaign period is happening during the pandemic.

The Department of Health warned that campaign activities could become superspreader events for COVID-19. PRC Chairman and CEO Sen. Dick Gordon urged everyone to observe health and safety protocols such as wearing a face mask, washing /sanitizing his/her hands, and social distancing, as the COVID-19 omicron variant is still highly transmissible and may further mutate. 

“Marami pa ang kaso ng COVID-19 sa bansa, kaya tayo ay mag-iingat at laging sumunod sa health and safety protocols upang maiwasan na mahawa sa COVID-19. Magpabakuna at magpa-test para maprotektahan natin ang ating mga sarili. Patuloy ang operasyon ng PRC Bakuna Centers at mga Bakuna Buses para malabanan ang COVID-19,” Chairman Gordon said.

Since PRC started its vaccination program, PRC administered 984 764 doses nationwide to intensify its fight against COVID-19. The 14 PRC molecular laboratories remain operational and have conducted 5,430,773 tests since the PRC began testing in April 2020.

Philippine Red Cross (PRC) Chairman and CEO said that the humanitarian organization continues its operations to assist Super Typhoon Odette affected families by restoring the lifelines in the province on January 31, 2022.

PRC distributed 4,000 liters of water in Balisong, Argao, 10,000 liters of water in Tabon, Dalaguete, Cebu, and 5,000 liters of water in Arbor and El Pardo, Boljoon, Cebu with a total of 31,000 liters of clean and potable water to the residents.

PRC also conducted hygiene promotion to 1,020 individuals in Brgy. Arbor, Boljoon. An ambulance is also on standby to maintain the safety of the residents during the entire operation.

“Patuloy ang ating pagtulong sa mga kapatid natin na cebuano. Narito lagi ang Philippine Red Cross upang tulungan kayo upang makaahon sa epekto ng Typhoon Odette,” Chairman Gordon said.

PRC Cebu Chapter continues to provide water production in areas in Argao, Dalaguete, Oslob, and Boljoon.

A team of volunteers from the Philippine Red Cross(PRC) Malabon Chapter drove a Hot Meals on Wheels Food Truck to N. Vicencio St. Barangay Niugan, Malabon City to provide children, and the elderly with warm nutritious meals last February 3, 2022. 

In a report by the United Nations, 59 million Filipinos experienced food insecurity even before the pandemic. Over the past two years, the pandemic exacerbated the hunger crisis as the virus has greatly affected the agriculture sector. 

” With challenges to malnutrition, hunger, and food insecurity experienced by children and the elderly due to the pandemic, it is important that we continue to boost our efforts to address all the health and nutrition needs of the people,” said PRC Chairman and CEO Senator Dick Gordon in a statement.

By the end of the feeding activity, the Chapter has provided meals containing chicken, egg, and rice to 150 beneficiaries.   

The PRC has 29 Hot meals on Wheels food trucks equipped with kitchens that can prepare 100 meals per hour or 800 meals on an 8-hour operation. As of February 3, 2022, the humanitarian organization has served meals for 114, 463 individuals since the beginning of the pandemic.

PRC Chairman and CEO Sen. Dick Gordon deployed the Bakuna Bus for the first time in Malabon to vaccinate 300 individuals.

According to Chairman Gordo, the deployment of the Bakuna Bus is to intensify PRC’s fight against covid-19. PRC currently has 17 Bakuna Bus and 26 Bakuna Centers and has conducted over 979,304 doses administered.

“We need to act fast in vaccinating the unvaccinated individuals to protect them from COVID-19. I encourage everyone to get vaccinated. Ipinapadala natin ang ating mga Bakuna Bus upang mabigyan ng access ang mga tao sa bakuna,” Chairman Gordon said.

Meanwhile, PRC Chairman Gordon encourages everyone to get tested to detect the virus and prevent household transmission.

PRC continues its fight against COVID-19 through the continuous deployment of the Bakuna Bus and Bakuna Centers and the continuous operation of the molecular laboratories and isolation facilities.
